Guided Notes Q's for this week:

10. Explain what an ethical footprint is:

11A.  Imagine your life with a restricted Internet.  No more ‘Gram, Tik Tok or Snap Chat for you!  The only social media that you would consume would be government approved.  The only sports scores you would see would be the scores of the government approved  teams, and only if they win.  The only things you could look up would be government approved topics.  The only movies or streaming services you could you would carry only government approved content.   How would you feel?

11B. Imagine now that you’ve never known anything different.  You’ve ALWAYS only had government approved Internet.  But then you find out that there is a whole BIGGER, GREATER (questionably…) Internet out there!  How do you think the government would feel if it’s public found out about this greater, bigger Internet?

11C. Finally- how would the public feel about the government?

12. Define Civil Rights:

13. Look at the water fountain image in the doc.  Provide a detailed description of each water fountain and what do you think is hidden symbolism about the Colored water fountain? (this is hard…)

14. Schools were considered a perfect place to reinforce segregation.  Why do you think schools were the places where segregation was an important place to reinforce segregation?

15. List three universities in the South that were forced to desegregate.

16. What is going on in this image?  How does this image depict what was happening in Birmingham, AL in 1963? What happened at the Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama?

17. Below are words from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s last public speech:

“I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. And I’m happy tonight. I’m not worried about anything. I’m not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”   What is he saying here?

18. In your opinion, is the Georgia Voting Law a violation of a civil right?  Why or why not? Explain.

19. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. advocated for direct action, meaning to say or do something immediately when the injustice is seen, not to wait.  Was the Black Power salute by Tommie Smith and John Carlos at the 1968 Olympics an example of direct action?  Why or why not?  Explain.
