Monday -- No School -- Simchat Torah!

Day 1
In Class:  Working on the School of Athens Paper.  Use the Khan Academy video and the packet provided below.

How is Raphael's School of Athens fresco the epitome of Renaissance art, humanism, classicism, and philosophy? 

5 Paragraph Essay, typed, 12 font, Times New Roman, one-inch margins, MLA, NO FIRST PERSON!

Paragraph 1 - Introduction to what the piece of art is and what the piece of art is trying to illustrate

Paragraph 2 - How does the School of Athens demonstrate uses of Renaissance Art style? Examples...

Paragraph 3 - How does the School of Athens show signs of Humanism? Examples...

Paragraph 4 - How does the School of Athens show signs of Classicism?  Examples...

Paragraph 5 - How does the School of Athens show signs of Philosophy? Examples...

The essay is worth a QUIZ grade and will be graded in 5 point increments based on content and grammar/mechanics.  You may not write in the first person.  


HW:  Work on the School of Athens paper if you choose to do so!

Day 2
In Class:  Introduce Leonardo da Vinci and Niccolo Machiavelli! Watching the videos below about da Vinci and reading about da Vinci and Machiavelli in the packet to then answer the Q's in the Renaissance Packet

HW:  Answer the following Q in your Renaissance Guided Notes packet or have the answer typed/handwritten on a separate sheet of paper.  These answers are  based on the readings and videos of Leonardo da Vinci and Niccolo Machiavelli from the Renaissance Doc and the videos above: 

1. The term “Renaissance man” comes from the type of man Leonardo da Vinci was.  He was everything the Renaissance was.  A Renaissance man is defined as: a person with many talents or areas of knowledge.  Explain how Leonardo da Vinci is THE Renaissance man.

2. Niccolo Machiavelli was an Italian thinker and politician who wrote about how government should function.  How could you best sum up Machiavelli’s beliefs/ideas based on the reading?


Day 3
In Class:  Go over da Vinci and Machiavelli HW and then begin Figures of the Renaissance chapter reading and handout.  Reading through the chapter of Figures of the Renaissance and then providing details of each of these figures.  Think about the following Q’s:  What was their job/occupation?  Where were they from? What are they best known for doing?
HW:  None!  Shabbat Shalom!
